Towards the institutionalisation of the gender approach in Moroccan universities

Final UH2C TARGET conference

Under the heading” Towards the institutionalisation of the gender approach in Moroccan universities”, UH2C organised the TARGET national final conference on 24 December 2021 (hybrid format).

The main objective of the conference was to present the achievements made at the UH2C (Equality Charter and Gender Equality Commission at the University Council) and fostering similar initiatives in other universities.

Among the participants (over than fifty) there were several representatives of Moroccan universities, including members of Morocco’s Women in Science association, representatives from gender research groups and representatives from trade unions.

The conference started by an introductory session which counted with the participation of Ms. Hakima Khamar, Director of Human Resources at the Ministry of Higher Education, three Vice-Presidents of UH2C (Ms. Fatima- Ezzahra Alami, Mr. Anass Kettani and Mr. Rachid Saile) and the General Secretary of UH2C (Ms. Ghizlane Diab).

Following this, Amina Bettachy, coordinator of the UH2C TARGET team, presented the objectives, stages and main achievements of the project whilst Dalila Loudyi and Soumia Mordane, members of the UH2C TARGET team, discussed the status quo of gender equality in the university based on sex-disaggregated indicators.

The presentation of TARGET results was complemented by a lecture from Latifa El Bouhsini (Faculty of Education Sciences, University Mohammed V-Rabat) about “Gender: concept, institutionalisation process in Morocco and challenges”.

The debate was very lively and concluded with a set of recommendations summarised by Fatima Yahyaoui and Jamila Ayegou, members of the UH2C TARGET team.
